Porsche announced that its new racing car called the LMDH will come mated with a large capacity twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain with hybrid power for increased efficiency. The new racing engine will be based on a production engine to save on the overall cost of the car. The output of the V8 powertrain will need to be around 700 horsepower, according to Porsche.
Over three days of testing at Porsche's research and development, engineers complemented the engine for its durability and performance while being subject to a rigorous battery of testing runs. The engine will also run on environmentally friendly biofuel for the 2023 racing year.
The new Porsche LMDH Prototype race car will debut next year under the Porsche Penske Motorsport banner. It is slated to run in races all over the world, including legendary races in Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans.
